On the 25th of March, Swann-Morton had the pleasure of presenting the 2024 Swann-Morton Award for Academic Excellence in Operating Department Practice, in association with Sheffield Hallam University, to the winner, John Hobson.
John who became the 15th recipient of the Sheffield Hallam ODP Award, was presented with a Swann-Morton Golden Scalpel in acknowledgement of his fantastic achievements. John visited Swann-Morton alongside Lecturer in ODP, Brian Corrin (BSc, PGDip HE PAA) and were both provided with a tour of the manufacturing facility. “It was interesting to see the whole process from start to finish and further understand the company's ethos” commented John, following his visit.
Having made the decision to start a family here in Sheffield. John chose to train as an OPD after trying a few different career paths. John who is currently working as an anaesthetics ODP at Chesterfield Royal Hospital having qualified and graduated last year, spoke passionately about his enjoyment in helping patients, as well as, working in a multi-disciplinary team. Content in his role, John also spoke about how ODP can be a challenging yet extremely rewarding profession and likes the fact that every day is different.
